Sincona sale 101, lot 3635

This specimen was lot 3635 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 1,050 CHF (about US$1,583 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"TÜRKEI Abdul Mejid, 1255-1277 AH (1839-1861). 100 Kurush 1255 H. / Jahr 8, Edirne. Auf den Besuch des Sultans in Edirne mit Münzstättenangabe Edirne. Tughra mit Blume auf Lorbeerzweigen und Pfeilköchern, Münzstättenangabe und Datum des Regierungsanfangs. Sehr selten. Fast vorzüglich. (Turkey, Abdul Mejid, AH 1255-77, one hundred kurush of AH 1255, year 8, for his visit to Edirne. Obverse: toughra with a flower over laurel branches and quivers, mintmark and accession date. Very rare, About Extremely Fine.)"

Two commemoratives, a gold fifty kuruş and this hundred kuruş, were struck for the sultan's visit to Adrianople. Regular hundred kuruş (KM 679) were also struck this year.
