The first specimen was lot 2329 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$485 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"OSMANISCHES REICH | ´Abd al-Majîd, 1255-1277 H./1839-1861 AD, 50 Kurush 1255 H./Jahr 8, Edirne. Auf den Besuch des Sultans in Edirne mit Münzstättenangabe Edirne. Tughra mit Blume auf Lorbeerzweigen und Pfeilköchern, Münzstättenangabe und Datum des Regierungsanfangs. Sehr selten. Sehr schön. (Turkey, Abdul Mejid, 1839-61, gold fifty kurush of AH 1255, year 8, Adrianople mint, for the visit of the sultan. Very rare, Very fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 700 in Stephen Album sale 37 (Santa Rosa, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $386.75. The catalog description[2] noted, "TURKEY: Abdul Mejid, 1839-1861, AV 50 kuruş, Edirne, AH1255 year 8, city visit issue, but struck at Kostantiniye, VF, R." Two commemoratives, a gold hundred kuruş and this fifty kuruş, were struck for the sultan's visit to Adrianople. Regular fifty kuruş (KM 678) were also struck this year.
