Turkey AH 1223(21) kurush
This specimen was lot 2396 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Mahmud II, 1808-1839, AR kuruş, Kostaniniye, AH1223 year 21, a lovely example! PCGS graded MS64, ex Dr. Axel Wahlstedt Collection." This kurush was part of the seventh issue of silver during this reign. These coins are dated years 21-22. The coinage was suffering violent gyrations in value and the kuruş was issued in the fourth, fifth and seventh issues only. The reform of the next reign would stabilize the coinage until the collapse of the Ottomans at the end of World War One. Regnal year 21 (AH 1243) corresponded to July 1827-July 1828.
