This specimen was lot 75645 in Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $89. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY. Ottoman Empire. 2 Kurush, AH 1223 Year 16 (1823/4). Istanbul (Constantinople) Mint. Mahmud II. PCGS AU-55." This two kuruş was part of the fifth issue of silver during this reign. These coins are dated years 15-16. The coinage was suffering violent gyrations in value and two kuruş were issued in the fourth and fifth issues only. The reform of the next reign would stabilize the coinage until the collapse of the Ottomans at the end of World War One.
