Sincona sale 92, lot 982

This specimen was lot 982 in Sincona sale 92 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$416 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"OSMANISCHES REICH / TÜRKEI Murâd IV. ibn Ahmad III. 1032-1049 AH (1623-1640), Sultani 1032 AH (1622/1623), Qustantînîya Mint. Sehr schön, Prägeschwäche und dezentriert, Very Fine, Weak part und off-centered."

Murad IV was made sultan in 1623 at age eleven under the regency of his mother. He assumed power in 1628. The treaty of Zuhab in 1639 fixed the border with Iran more or less where it is today. He died in 1640, aged 27, leaving eight daughters and no sons (all fifteen died in childhood), and was succeeded by his brother Ibrahim the Mad.
