Turkey AH1255(14) 20 kurush
This specimen was lot 2330 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"OSMANISCHES REICH | ´Abd al-Majîd, 1255-1277 H./1839-1861 AD, 20 Kurush (Mecidiye Riyal) 1255 H./Jahr 14, Qustantînîya. Tughra mit Blume über Regierungsjahr in zwölfbogiger Einfassung, Münzstättenangabe und Datum des Regierungsanfangs. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Turkey, Abdul Mejid, 1839-61, twenty kuruş of AH 1255, year 14, Constantinople mint. Very fine-extremely fine.)"
This type, slightly lighter than a French five francs, was struck years 6-15 in substantial numbers and is common. The silver twenty kuruş was last issued to this standard in 1918.
