This specimen was lot 3509 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Republic, AR 50,000 lira, 1991, Bicentenary of the Death of Mozart, mintage of only 1,614, Proof, S." This was one of a series of NCLT's honoring famous musicians, some of them not Turkish. Others included Rossini (KM 1023) and Ahmet Saygun (KM 1019). As inflation ravaged the lira, mint authorities resorted to ever higher denominations for commemoratives.
Recorded Mintage: 1,614 proofs.
Specification: 22.87 g, 0.925 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM-1007.
