Turkey 1949 kurush

from the Mountain Groan Collection

This type was struck in Istanbul 1947-51 during the reign of Ismet Inonu, president of Turkey 1938-50. It was superseded by a smaller brass type struck 1961-63. The kurush was retired as a denomination in 1979, inflation having rendered it worthless.

Recorded mintage: 29,530,000.

Specification: 2.25 g, brass, 18 mm diameter.
