Steve Album sale 54, lot 1236

This specimen was lot 1236 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $228. The catalog description[1] noted, "TUNISIA: Ahmad Bey, 1929-1942, AR 10 francs, Paris Mint, AH1355 (1936), a low mintage of 1,103 pieces, this date rarely appears in auctions, choice AU, ex Stephen Album Price List #262." This type was struck in Paris AH 1353-1358 for the puppet regime in Tunisia. The AH 1353 is the only date that circulated; the others were struck only for presentation. The Nazi occupation during World War Two disrupted French colonial rule and in 1956, Tunisia obtained her independence. Unlike other coins issued during the protectorate, this design does not bear the AD date.

Recorded mintage: 2,006.

Specification: 10 g, 0.680 fine silver, 28 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM-262.
