This specimen was lot 33906 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mahmud II 8 Kharub AH 1248 (1833) MS63 NGC, Tunis mint. An elusive type in an almost unheard-of grade. Certainly a rare opportunity for the connoisseur of Islamic coinage." This type was struck AH 1240-1254 in the name of Mahmud II in Constantinople. It is scarce in nice condition. Eight kharub made a half piastre or riyal, the largest silver coin issued in Tunisia prior to the reform of 1839.
