from Steve Album sale 45, lot 653

This specimen was lot 653 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "TUNIS: Mustafa III, 1757-1774, AV ½ zeri mahbub, Tunis, AH1186, a lustrous mint state example and rare thus! PCGS graded MS62. This denomination incorrectly called ½ sultani on the slab." This type was struck AH 1185-1187 in the name of Mustafa III in Constantinople. It is very rare in nice condition. Nearly all the surviving Tunisian gold coins of the hammered era have been holed.
