Sincona sale 31, lot 25

This specimen was lot 25 in Sincona sale 31 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$297 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "OTTOMAN TUNIS | Mahmud I (1143-1171/1730-1754ce) 2 kharub 1156ah (1743ce) Bi, rare date vf." This type was struck AH 1153-1156 in the name of Mahmud I in Constantinople. It is very rare in nice condition. Sixteen kharub made a piastre or riyal, the largest silver coin issued in Tunisia in the eighteenth century.
