Sincona sale 31, lot 349

This specimen was lot 349 in Sincona sale 31 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$1,425 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "REPUBLIC OF TUNISIA, 10 dinars 1962ce/1382ah AU, Arabic legend (w/case) Pf." This type was struck in small numbers 1959-62 with Arabic and French legends (KM 322). It is unlikely to have circulated beyond the president's circle of cronies and supporters. It is rare.

Recorded mintage: 1,000 proofs.

Specification: 23.48 g, 0.900 fine gold, .675 troy oz AGW, 31 mm diameter, this specimen 23.50 g.
