Sincona sale 23, lot 3219

This specimen was lot 3219 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 1,600 CHF (about US$2,010 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"TUNISIA, Mohammed Lamine Bei, 1943-1957 100 Francs 1954. Sehr selten. Nur 63 Exemplare geprägt. Fast FDC. (protectorate of Tunisia, Mohammed Bey (1943-57), one hundred francs of 1954, very rare, choice uncirculated.)"

This type was issued 1938-55 but all dates are rare. Unlike Fr-14, it does not have the mark of value stamped on it. The SCWC does not include it, but it is mentioned in Friedberg. This issue was struck to the standard of the French hundred francs of 1935-36.

Recorded mintage: 63.

Specification: 6.55 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.189 troy oz AGW, this specimen 6.54 g.
