This specimen was lot 226 in Sincona sale 31 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$214 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH PROTECTORATE | Reign of Muhammed al-Nasr Bey (1324-1340ah/1906-1922ce) 1 franc 1910ce/1328ah AR R xf/+." This rare date was struck in Paris for Tunisia before World War One to the standard of the French silver franc. The type was struck 1907-21; some dates are common but this one is very rare. It was struck in the name of Muhammed al-Nasir Bey, a French puppet. The French left in 1956 and in 1957 a republic was established, ousting the discredited monarchy.
