This specimen was lot 203 in Sincona sale 31 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$890 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH PROTECTORATE | Reign of Ali Bey (1299-1320ah/1882-1902ce) 10 francs 1900ce/1318ah AU RR vf+." This type was struck 1891-1900 as part of the decimal reform introduced by the French occupiers. It is the same weight and fineness as a French ten francs d'or. The type was struck for circulation in 1891 only.
