This specimen was lot 3761 in Stack's-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $734.38. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Trier. Taler, ND (1794-GM). Clemens Wenzel von Sachsen (1768-1802). NGC EF-45. Contribution Taler. Date in chronogram. Toned. Nice strike." The archbishopric issued numerous thalers in the eighteenth century, only a few such as this one are affordable. The region was annexed by France in 1792 and awarded to Prussia in 1815 by the Congress of Vienna.
