Steve Album sale 51, lot 2727

This specimen was lot 2727 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "TRAVANCORE: Rama Varma VI, 1885-1924, AR 1/4 rupee, 1889, AU, R." This one year type bears an AD date, unusual for this state in the far south of India. The accompanying half rupee (KM 38) is similarly dated. Maharaja Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma V ruled 1885-1924.

Specification: 2.72 g, silver, 20 mm diameter, reeded edge, this specimen 2.65 g.
