Travancore (1870-1931) 1/2 pagoda
This specimen was lot 75230 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Travancore. 1/2 Pagoda, ND (1870-1931). Rama Varma VI. PCGS Genuine--Plugged, EF Details. Tulabraham medallic presentation coinage which was distributed to the Brahmins during the weighing in ceremony of the Maharajah. This piece displays a slight unnatural rub and a plug at 12 o'clock. Difficult to locate in any grade, this is the first of the denomination we can recall offering in recent years." The SCWC notes this as a presentation token, not a coin, and consigns it to the volume of Unusual World Coins. A quarter, single and double pagoda also appear therein.
