Steve Album sale 51, lot 715

This specimen was lot 715 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "TRAVANCORE: Bala Rama Varma I, 1798-1810, AR 2 chuckrams, ND (1809-10), 6-point star within circular Malayalam legend padmanabhan around, single dot within the star variety (Sarasan-177.1 has two dots) // conch shell, both sides within border of dots; one of the rarest silver coins of Travancore during the 19th & 20th centuries, and a wonderful example, choice XF-AU, RRR." The SCWC gives this coin a modest catalog value, belied by the price realized. This denomination was not struck again in the nineteenth century.
