Transylvania 1744 ducat Fr-542
This specimen was lot 5994 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €7,000 (about US$9,046 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. Dukat 1744, Karlsburg, für Siebenbürgen. GOLD. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Erworben 1972 bei der Tiroler Münzhandlung, Innsbruck. (Holy Roman Empire, maria Theresia, 1740-80, ducat of 1744, Karlsburg mint, for Transylvania. Scarce in this quality, outstanding example, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1743-45, early in Maria Theresia's reign. It is rare. Unlike the Empire, where Maria Theresia had to rule thru her husband Franz (and later her son Joseph), she was queen of Hungary outright.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.50 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.46 g.
