Sincona sale 43, lot 2627

This specimen was lot 2627 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 375 CHF (about US$448 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Karl VI. 1711-1740 1/2 Taler 1721. Siebenbürgen. Vorzüglich. NGC AU58. (principality of Transylvania, Charles VI, half thaler of 1721. Extremely fine.)"

This type, listed under Transylvania, was struck 1721 and is rather expensive. Altho Transylvania had been reconquered from the Turks a generation before, the native gentry still preferred their local autonomy and the province was still restive.
