Jean Elsen sale 159, lot 922

This specimen was lot 922 in Jean Elsen sale 159 (Brussels, June 2024), where it sold for €100 (about US$129 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"TOURNAI, Seigneurie, Albert et Isabelle (1598-1621), AR quart de patagon, s.d. (1612-1618). D/ Croix de Bourgogne sous une couronne, entre les monogrammes couronnés des archiducs, ornée du bijou de la Toison d'or. R/ Ecu couronné, entouré du collier de la Toison d'or. Belle patine. Très Beau à Superbe. (lordship of Tournai, Albert and Isabella, 1598-1621, undated quarter patagon, circa 1612-18. Obverse: Burgundian cross under a crown between the monograms of the archdukes, adorned with the jewel of the Golden Fleece; reverse: crowned arms, order chain around. Nice patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"

Patagons were struck for Albert and Isabella in Tournai (Dav-4438), Brabant (Dav-4432) and Flanders (Dav-4434). Half and quarter patagons were also struck but are much scarcer.

Specification: 7.03 g, 0.875 fine silver, this specimen 6,88 g.
