SB421-53488r.jpg

The first specimen was lot 1230 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "TIBET: Jia Qing, 1796-1820, AR sho, year 25 (1820), PCGS graded EF40." The second specimen was lot 53488 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $5,040. The catalog description[2] noted, "CHINA. Tibet. Sho, Year 25 (1821). PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. An interesting issue that was apparently struck in the name of Jia Qing posthumously, as the Emperor died late in the 24th year of his reign. This nicely preserved survivor exhibits a decent strike with areas of flatness near the rims displaying light attractive gray tone." This type was struck years 24 and 25. This coin is not priced in the SCWC above VF but the first example realized eleven times the catalog value.
