This specimen was lot 1922 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €4,400 (about US$5,930 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANKREICH/ELSASS, THANN, STADT, Taler 1556. RR Attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Patina, sehr schön +. (French states, city of Thann, thaler of 1556, rare, attractive example with handsome patina, very fine or better.)"
Davenport lists this rare type for 1542-57. A double thaler (Dav-9909) also exists. Thann, in upper Alsace near Strasbourg, was then in the Empire but has been part of France since the late 1600's.
