Steve Album sale 51, lot 1441

This specimen was lot 1441 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $3,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "THAILAND: Rama V, 1868-1910, AE 2 att, RS119 (1900), doubled die obverse (DDO), lightly lustrous with orange highlights, PCGS graded MS63 BN. Finest graded of this date by PCGS." Multiple dates were minted of this type between 1887-90, 1895-1900 and 1902-05. Common in worn condition, it is expensive choice. This example realized fourteen times the catalog value. This date was struck in Bangkok; others were ordered from Hamburg and Birmingham. It accompanied a single att (Y22) and half att (Y21).
