This specimen was lot 23570 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Teutonic Order. 1/4 Taler, ND (ca. 1615). Hall Mint. Maximilian I of Austria. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. Obverse: Crowned, mantled and armored figure of the grand master stands 1/4 left, arms supported by a monster at left, plumed helmet at right; Reverse: The emperor, mounted and armed cap à pie, charges right, circle of shields around. A sharply detailed and pleasantly toned coin." Altho the Teutonic Order is best remembered in history for its activities in Prussia and Latvia, these scarce quarter thalers were minted for them in Hall. The quarter thaler also comes with a continuous obverse legend (KM 38).
