Steve Album Auction 53, lot 2985

This specimen was lot 2985 in Steve Album Auction 53 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "TESCHEN: Adam Wenzel, 1579-1617, AR 3 kreuzer (groschen) (1)608, minor obverse residue, Choice VF, ex Almer H. Orr III Collection, ex Al Boulanger." Adam Wenzel was the semi-sovereign duke of Teschen, which lies in the uppermost part of Silesia. He died in 1617 and his dynasty fell extinct in 1653, whereupon the duchy came under the direct rule of the Hapsburgs. It was not included when Frederick the Great seized the rest of Silesia from Maria Theresia in 1743. This groschen was struck 1604-08 and is scarce.
