The specimen shown is an example of a type struck in Bern, Switzerland, starting in 1983. This denomination was struck in copper-nickel starting in 1968, superseding a silver coin of the same design. Despite the numbing monotony of Swiss coinage (some designs have been struck for 150 years without change), collectors pursue this design by date. This specimen was plucked from circulation on a recent trip to Europe.
Recorded mintage: 15,022,000 plus 4,000 proofs.
Specification: 4.4 g, copper-nickel, 23.1 mm diameter.
