Switzerland 1987-A 50 francs
This specimen was lot 970 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND: Confederation, AR 50 francs, 1987-A, Glarus Shooting Festival, struck at the Münze Österreich, Vienna, eagle holding arms of Glarus // standing woman holding rifle and flag, a perfect proof example of this low mintage issue, PCGS graded PF70 Deep Cameo." This shooting festival token had a nominal face value during the festival which ended once the festival was over. However, as it continues a old tradition of such pieces, the series (in gold and silver) remains popular and is mentioned in Friedberg and the SCWC Unusual World Coins.
