Switzerland 1948 5 francs rev DSLR.jpg

The first specimen was lot 73586 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $70. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. 5 Francs, 1948-B. Bern Mint. PCGS MS-67 Gold Shield. With just three graded finer in the PCGS census, this delightful Gem is about as attractive as one can reasonably encounter. Soft, satiny, steel gray surfaces are accentuated by shimmering luster and some russet toning near the peripheries." This commemorative was extensively saved and is today quite a bit more available than the regular issue (KM 40) for 1948.

Recorded mintage: 500,400 plus specimens plus 416,000 of the regular William Tell 5 francs (KM 40).

Specification: 15 g, 0.835 fine silver, 31 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 48.
