This specimen was lot 33881 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "Confederation 5 Francs 1924-B AU Details (Cleaned) NGC, Bern mint. Cleaned, but with most device details close to fully intact." This William Tell type superseded a Helvetia head type struck 1888-1916. This date is the key. Confederation coinage commenced in 1850; prior to that, each canton struck its own coinage. In 1931, the five francs was reduced to 15 grams, 0.835 fine, and struck in that form until 1969.
Recorded mintage: 182,000 plus specimens, the key date.
