Switzerland 1909-B 2 francs
This specimen was lot 4281 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (about US$1,568 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"2 Franken 1909 B, Bern. NGC MS66. Prachtexemplar. (Swiss confederation, two francs of 1909, Bern mint. Cabinet piece.)"
This type was struck at the Bern mint 1874-1967. The design is still in use today tho the coin is now copper-nickel. This specimen is struck to the standard of the French two francs of 1866-1920. This date is a scarce date in high grade. Prior to confederation in 1850, each Swiss canton issued its own coins.
Recorded mintage: 300,000 plus specimens.
