Switzerland 1909-B 20 rappen
This specimen was lot 3609 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Eidgenossenschaft, Fehlprägungen, 20 Rappen 1909 B, Bern. Randverprägung. Der Rand wurde mit einem Prägering geprägt, welcher ursprünglich geriffelt war. Die Riffelung wurde dann mechanisch aber unvollständig entfernt, so dass auf der Münze deutliche Spuren der ehemaligen Randriffelung erkennbar sind. Sehr selten. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. NGC erwähnt nichts von der Fehlprägung. (confederation of Switzerland, error coinage, twenty rappen of 1909, Bern mint. Edge variety. The edge was struck with a collar that was originally reeded. The reeding was then mechanically removed, but incompletely, so that clear traces of the former edge reeding are visible on the coin. Very rare. NGC MS64, Magnificent condition.)"
This type was struck 1881-1938 with no change in design. In 1939, the coin was converted to copper-nickel and is still in production in that form.
Recorded mintage: 2,000,000, a common date.
