This specimen was lot 4223 in Goldberg sale 74 (Los Angeles, June 2013), where it sold for $287.50 including buyer's fees. The catalog description[1] noted, "Switzerland. 20 Francs, 1890-B. Girl head left. NGC graded MS-62." This Swiss twenty francs conforms to the standard of the Latin Monetary Union, where twenty francs = 6.45 g, 0.900 fine gold. Switzerland continued to use this standard even after France, its originator, abandoned it after World War One. This type was struck 1886-96; an earlier issue (KM 31.1) of 1883 had a reeded edge.
