Sweden 1950-TS 2 kronor
This specimen was lot 75564 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 2 Kronor, 1950-TS. Stockholm Mint. Gustaf V. NGC MS-65. A highly lustrous example with argent white color on proof-like surfaces. Engaging." This type was issued 1942-50 and is common in all grades. This represents a debasement from the prior type (KM 787), which was 15 g, 0.800 fine silver. We're not sure how the 1950/1 overdate came to exist unless 1951 dies were prepared in advance and then modified to 1950 when word came down that no 1951's were to be struck.
Recorded mintage: 3,727,465 including a 1950/1 overdate.
Specification: 14 g, 0.400 fine silver, 31 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-815.
