This specimen was lot 3967 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it sold for $1,524. The catalog description[1] noted, "Sweden. Ducat, 1861/0 ST. Carl XV Adolf. Head right. Reverse: Crowned mantled arms. Very choice original example. NGC graded MS-65." Ducats of various types were issued in Sweden throughout the nineteenth century until 1868. Collecting Swedish coins is complicated by the multiple currency reforms the country underwent during the period. This type is listed for 1860-68 and is somewhat scarce. The overdate shown here obtains a slight premium over the regular date.
