Sweden 1819 skilling
This specimen was lot 1034 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $108.90. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Karl XIV Johan. 1818–1844. CU Skilling. Avesta mint. Dated 1819. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 64 BN. Beautiful This type was issued 1819-30 along with copper quarter and half skilling pieces. The denomination was dropped in 1855. It is common in circulated condition. The present dynasty is descended from Charles Bernadotte, one of Napoleon's generals who defected to Sweden. Collecting Swedish coins is complicated by the multiple currency reforms the country underwent during the period.
