This specimen was lot 34265 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "Sweden: Gustaf IV Adolf gold Ducat 1804-OL MS60 NGC. A rarely encountered yet beautiful portrait type featuring Gustaf IV Adolf, a staunch opponent of Napoleon. While the off-centered strike and traces of friction limit access to a choice Mint State designation, this attractive example still sits at the top of the census at both grading services. A unique opportunity." This type was struck 1799-1809 and is scarce, as are most Swedish ducats.
Recorded mintage: 8,700.
Specification: 3.5 g, 0.976 fine gold.
