SB626-11123r.jpg

This specimen was lot 11123 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Copenhagen, June 2026), where it sold for €439.20 (about US$506). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 1/6 Riksdaler, 1787-OL. Stockholm Mint. Gustav III. NGC AU Details--Rim Damage. Nicely toned example. From the L.E. Bruun Collection." This denomination was introduced in 1776 to replace the 16 öre (KM 513). It must have been a success, as it was struck in large numbers. This type of 1778-90 accompanied a 1/3 riksdaler (KM 525). Gustav III was assassinated in 1792.

Recorded mintage: 25,662, a scarce date.

Specification: 6.19 g, 0.691 fine silver, 25-26 mm diameter, this specimen 6.13 g.

Catalog reference: KM-524; SM-85; Delzanno-77; Bruun-13159.
