Sweden SA30-1423r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1423 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it sold for $117.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN: Gustav III, 1771-1792, AR 1/3 riksdaler, 1787, initials OL, lightly toned, EF-AU, Ex Dr. John Lund Collection." This denomination was introduced in 1776 to replace the two mark last minted in 1754. It must have been a success, as this type was struck 1778-89 in large numbers and is common today. A 1787/5 overdate exists.

Recorded mintage: 461,000.

Specification: 9.75 g, 0.878 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-525, SM71.
