This specimen was lot 11247 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €216 (about US$225). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 4 Öre, 1581. Johan III. NGC VF-20. Variation with SVECIE in obverse legend. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." Johan III was the second son of Gustaf Vasa and was Duke of Finland from 1556-1563 when he was imprisoned for opposing his brother, Eric XIV. After the demise of Erik, Johan III became King in 1568 and ruled until his death in 1592. This four öre, worth one-eighth of a daler, was struck 1575 and 1581-82. Another four öre, with a same obverse but "MONETA * NOVA * STOKHOLM" on the reverse (KM MB155.1), was struck 1575-76 and 1581.

Recorded mintage: 109,997 (both types).

Specifications: 4.64 g, 0.675 fine silver, 28-29 mm diameter, this specimen 4.22 g.
