This specimen was lot 71808 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. Kingdom of the Netherlands. Sumatra. Duit, 1815-H. NGC VF-20. Well-circulated with a pleasing, even appearance." In 1815, the British returned Sumatra and Java to the Dutch at the Congress of Vienna. In exchange, the British retained Singapore and made it their main base in the East Indies. This type was struck 1814-16 and is common. Duits were struck for Sumatra until 1826. Decimal coinage was introduced in 1833 and made general for the entire colony in 1854.
