G119-2114r.jpg
Pomerania in 1648, with Stralsund opposite the island of Rugen

This specimen was lot 2114 in Goldberg sale 122 (Los Angeles, June 2021), where it sold for $150. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Stralsund. Groschen, 1612. KM-12. City arms. Reverse: Cross in circle. Toned. PCGS graded AU-50." This type was struck 1610-14 and is listed in the SCWC as KM 4, not KM 12. Stralsund, in the duchy of Pomerania, was a member of the Hanseatic League but fell under Swedish rule 1637-1815, when the port passed to Prussia. While some of the minors are listed fairly inexpensively, all the thalers are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.47-2.73 g, silver, 24-25 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 4.
