Stolberg-Stolberg (1759) 1/8 ducat Fr-3341
This specimen was lot 29799 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "Stolberg-Stolberg. Christoph Ludwig II gold 1/8 Ducat ND (1759) MS64 NGC. An ideal example of this small gold issue featuring a stag and monogrammed initials. Even without the aid of magnification, a bold strike is readily evident--the intricately-styled design elements appear razor sharp--and other than light flan porosity, the fields are free of any noteworthy marks. One of the finest examples of this type we've encountered, nearly-Gem and highly engaging as such." This type is accompanied by a quarter ducat (KM 243) and a rare one ducat (KM 244).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 0.43 g, 0.986 fine gold.
