Steve Album sale 51, lot 3328

This specimen was lot 3328 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $114. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPITZBERGEN (SVALBARD): 20 kopecks, 1946, Arktikugol token, light cleaning, XF, ex Hans Mondorf Collection. The Soviet (later Russian) state-owned Arktikugol company has mined coal on the Island of Spitsbergen in the Svalbard Archipelago since 1932." This token was issued for use in the Russian concession on Spitzbergen (also known in Norwegian as Svalbard). Ten, fifteen and fifty kopek tokens were also issued in 1946. It was struck in Leningrad.

Recorded mintage: 25,000.
