Spain 2021 1-1/2 euro
This specimen was lot 32912 in Heritage Sale 3115 (Chicago, May 2024), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "Spain: Phillip VI gold Reverse Proof "Iberian Lynx / Spanish Doubloon" 1-1/2 Euros (1 oz) 2021-M PR70 NGC, Madrid mint. First Releases. An exceptional coin, this example is flawless and displays frosted fields with mirrored devices, which is usually the other way around for coins, making this coin delightfully unique. It is also one of only 5 First Releases graded Reverse PR70 by NGC." This format was also used to feature the fighting bull (Fr-486, struck 2022) and the Carthusian horse (Fr-489, struck 2023). The use of the odd denomination exempts these NCLT's from the legal tender provisions of the euro treaty.
