This specimen was lot 1204 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $96. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN: Second Republic, 25 centimos, 1934, one year type, a fantastic quality example! NGC graded MS66." In 1931, Alfonso XIII, king of Spain, was overthrown and exiled and a republic established. The political stresses unleashed thereby continued to wrack Spain and the regime's life was brief; in 1936, General Franco pronounced against the government and by 1939 had conquered Spain for the Fascists. This one year type was issued just before the violence exploded.
