Spain 1865 2 escudos 6 point star
This specimen was lot 967 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $786.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN, Reino de España. Isabel II. 1833-1868. AV 2 Escudos. Second decimal coinage. Madrid mint; im: 6 pointed star. Dated 1865. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66. Gem lustrous BU. Highest graded. Ex Wayne Raymond Collection (NASCA, 5 December 1977), lot 749." This type was struck at Madrid 1865 and 1868 only along with a gold four and ten escudos. They were part of the second coinage reform of 1865-68 which also saw the production of a silver two escudos, which for 1865 is very rare.
