Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75519

This specimen was lot 75519 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTH AFRICA. 2 Rand, 2005. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. A delightful Proof issue to celebrate the World Cup the following year in Germany." Other two rands for 2005 include KM 296 (greater kudu), KM 390 (World Cup in gold) and KM 372 (three vultures). Altho the citizens of South Africa are as soccer crazy as any other country, the nation has participated only three times, 1998, 2002 and 2010, and never made it out of the first round despite being the host in 2010.
